Today my mrdanga teacher told me: “What I want to see each time we meet is that you are better than before .”
This standard is remarkably powerful when we apply it to our bhakti practice because Krsna helps the sincere devotee from within:
“To those who are constantly devoted to serving Me with love, I give the understanding by which they can come to Me. To show them special mercy, I, dwelling in their hearts, destroy with the shining lamp of knowledge the darkness born of ignorance.” (Sri Krsna; Gita 10.10-11)
Make some sacrifice today to improve your devotional practice and Krsna will help you.
Tomorrow when you see that you are “better than before,” (even if only by a little ) you’ll gain impetus to improve yet again.
To regularly achieve such progress, take shelter of a devotee — more advanced than yourself — and ask him or her to assess your progress and to push you when you don’t have the strength to push yourself.
“One should taste the meaning of Srimad-Bhagavatam in the association of pure devotees, and one should associate with the devotees who are more advanced than oneself and who are endowed with a similar type of affection for the Lord.” (Cc Madhya 22.131)
