Keep Good Association

Advancement in any practice comes quickly to those who cultivate association with those who are experts in that practice. An Italian proverb puts it like this, “Keep company with good people, and you’ll increase their number.”

Similarly, to advance in bhakti yoga one must associate with practitioners who are more advanced than oneself.

Lord Caitanya told Sanatana Goswami:

“One should taste the meaning of Srimad-Bhagavatam in the association of pure devotees, and one should associate with the devotees who are more advanced than oneself and who are endowed with a similar type of affection for the Lord.” (Cc Madhya.22.131)
