Prahlada Maharaja says that living beings in the material world are all being crushed by the wheel of time. (SB 7.9.22)
Here are some synonyms for “crush” given in the dictionary: deform, pulverize, force inward by compressing forcefully, violently subdue, bring about a feeling of overwhelming disappointment or embarrassment.
Time mashes mountains and washes away universes, what to speak of kings, empires, huge corporations or tiny intellectuals who deny the existence of God; every being or creation eventually succumbs to Krishna’s manifestation as all-powerful time. There’s no sense in trying to “tough it out” in the material world as one will simply be crushed for his or her efforts.
It’s wise, on the other hand, to openly admit that there’s no hope of making any permanent stand in the material world and to submit to Krishna who fully protects his surrendered devotees.
