Lapses in daily hearing and chanting are like dry spells in one’s bhakti garden. When plants get insufficient water they become stressed, they whither, and in extreme cases, they die. Similarly, a sadhaka (bhakti practitioner) who regularly skips his or her daily hearing and chanting vows soon feels spiritual weakness.
If the day spell continues, the sadhaka gradually forgets that his greatest fortune and happiness lie in chanting Krsna’s divine names, he becomes bewildered, and he mistakenly turns to sense gratification, hoping to find happiness.
