Garden Soil

Rich garden soil nurtures seeds dropped upon it by wind and birds.

Attentive gardeners winnow out unwanted seeds and sprouts before they grow strong, reproduce and take over the garden.

Material desires, like ubiquitous seeds, similarly enter the hearts of those who are negligent in their spiritual practices.

Bhakti scriptures teach that by sanga, or intimate association with others, we open our hearts to material or spiritual desire seeds.

Bhakti gardeners understand how the company they keep affects them and thus carefully choose their friends. They also avidly uproot unwelcome desires by the process of hearing and chanting about Krishna.

With gratitude and affection,
