This morning at 3:19am, eleven minutes before my alarm clock was set to go off, a 6.0 earthquake, which came in one quick jolt – shook me awake.
The day before, I had escorted a small grasshopper out of my room on a piece of paper, and by giving the paper a light tap above a rose bush, I had caused him to jump back into his natural, green home.
Just after the earthquake today, I thought of the many ways in which Krishna mercifully taps this temporary world so that the living entities here might be convinced to jump off, and back into their natural, blissful home in the spiritual world.
“The real form of this tree cannot be perceived in this world. No one can understand where it ends, where it begins, or where its foundation is. But with determination one must cut down this strongly rooted tree with the weapon of detachment. Thereafter, one must seek that place from which, having gone, one never returns, and there surrender to that Supreme Personality of Godhead from whom everything began and from whom everything has extended since time immemorial.” (Bhagavad-gita 15.3,4)
