The roses in our backyard garden are dormant for winter and sit motionless with bare branches.
They are not dead, but only temporarily inactive. Soon they will burst forth with life and color when touched again by the direct rays of the sun.
In winter, all the plants wait with uncanny patience knowing that their benefactor, the sun will soon come to warm and invigorate their roots and branches, reviving their full glory.
Similarly, tolerating the miseries of a winter-like lifetime, a bhakti yogi goes on chanting the holy names of Krishna, knowing that the powerful rays of the holy name will soon reopen her loving relationship with Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
“The name of Krishna is a transcendental touchstone, a mine of all devotional mellows. It is eternally liberated, and the embodiment of pure rasa. When all impediments to the pure chanting of the holy name are taken away and destroyed, then my happiness will know its true awakening.” (Bhaktivinoda Thakura; Saranagati)
