Burlingame, CA
Just before rising from a short nap today, I became acutely aware of my heartbeat.
For a moment I lay there marveling at my heart’s persistence and then thought to thank him for his voluntary service.
I whispered, “I appreciate all the work you are doing for me.”
He answered, “You’re welcome. But, I’m just doing my job.”
“And might I remind you,” he continued, “I may be asked to stop at any moment.”
I was touched by my heart’s wisdom and frankness and rose from my resting place with a renewed sense of determination to not waste any more time.

“My Guru Maharaja used to say that ‘Don’t waste time. Don’t wait for another life. In this life, finish this business, to understand Krishna, and go back home, back to Godhead.” (October 30, 1972; Srila Prabhupada Vrindavana Lecture on Nectar of Devotion)
