The great teacher of bhakti yoga, Rupa Goswami, advises that one should not collect and keep more things than one needs, as doing so disrupts one’s practice of bhakti.
In a similar vein, a professional organizer once told me that people who keep more things than they need in their homes, subject themselves to “visual noise.”
[The word, noise, derives from the word, nausea: “a feeling of sickness with an inclination to vomit.”]
Getting rid of clutter in one’s environment gives one an advantage in practicing bhakti yoga.
