Without Complaint

During summertime in the Bay Area, the weather often drastically changes within a few hours. A temperate morning frequently gives way to a damp and chilly afternoon.

As the plants and other creatures in our backyard garden stoically endure these changes of weather without complaint, the bhakti yogi must also bravely tolerate the inevitable changes of life, continuing in his or her practice without protest.

“O son of Kunti, the nonpermanent appearance of happiness and distress, and their disappearance in due course, are like the appearance and disappearance of winter and summer seasons. They arise from sense perception, O scion of Bharata, and one must learn to tolerate them without being disturbed.” (Bhagavad-Gita 2.14)
