Back in my school days I learned in my economics class that money is also called, “dollar votes.” The term is used to describe “how consumers and entrepreneurs effectively ‘vote’ for products when they purchase goods, as well as which product should be selected to be produced, marketed and sold by the results of votes in the market economy.”
The Vedic scriptures tell us that every embodied living being has a set number of years, months, minutes and seconds to live. Therefore, a person’s choice in using his or her valuable time during life effectively constitutes a “life vote” for what he or she actually believes in.
Realizing that life is a valuable opportunity to make spiritual advancement, bhakti yogis caste their life votes by investing their time in the most essential practices of bhakti yoga.
Simply by blinking his eyes, time personified can destroy the entire cosmic manifestation, but he has nothing to do with the devotee. In other words, devotional service, which is rendered by the devotee in this lifetime can never be destroyed by time. Such spiritual assets remain unchanged, being beyond the influence of time.” (Srimad-Bhagavatam 4.24.56)
