Burlingame, CA
On my morning walk today, I passed the local high school where a construction company is renovating the school’s Gym and outdoor swimming pool.
During the construction, the company has set up a doublewide trailer as a headquarters and as a place for workers to rest and eat during the day.
A sign above the trailer reads:
Mobile/Modular
Your Project, Our Commitment
Stuck by the transitoriness of the scene, I thought of how our universe is also a mobile, modular project.
At intervals – when needed – Visnu rolls out (mobile) the ingredients for the temporary material universes; and Brahma and Siva provide construction and demolition services, respectively. Each universe is an independent unit (modular) that fits together with other universes in a complex cluster. In fact, the combination of atoms, molecules, and bodies that make up the material world are a miracle of modularity.
The accommodating message above the trailer: Your Project, Our Commitment, parallels Krishna’s commitment to provide a temporary facility for those who wish to live outside the boundary of the spiritual world. But, Krishna reminds us in the Gita, our staying in this temporary, miserable world is our idea and project, not His.
