Two Kings

Burlingame, CA

In the city of nine gates, I live with two powerful kings, the tongue and mind.

Knowing their impulsive natures and fearsome, godlike powers, I keep a watchful eye on them.

What detrimental plans have these two kings not drawn? What boundary walls have they not breached when let free?

My only hope to overrule and check their wanton habits is to coax them forward to bow at the lotus feet of the holy name, the all-powerful emperor of all the senses.

“Living beings who are entangled in the complicated meshes of birth and death can be freed immediately by even unconsciously chanting the holy name of Krsna, which is feared by fear personified.” (SB 1.1.14)

Oh, holy name of Krsna, I beg you to quickly tame these two kings and keep them under your rule.

With gratitude and affection,

Vaisesika Dasa
