The word influence, which means, “Imperceptible or indirect action exerted to cause changes,” comes from the Latin word, influere: in – “into” + fluere – “to flow.”

At first, the result of chanting the Hare Krishna mantra is imperceptible. However, as one continues, the flow of the holy name causes a profound change of heart.

“O my Lord, when will my eyes be decorated with tears of love flowing constantly when I chant Your holy name? When will my voice choke up, and when will the hairs of my body stand on end at the recitation of Your name?” [Siksastakam 6]
