Transfer Your Attachments

People around the world are passionate about sports. When their team loses, they are sad. When their team wins, they are elated. And the outcome of the same sporting event is happiness for one person, but sadness for another!

These opposite experiences are due to each sport fan’s random or circumstantial attachment to one team or another.

In daily life, when one’s sense of happiness and distress is similarly rooted in one’s attachment to temporary objects, relationships and situations, one constantly suffers from loss and disappointment.

Bhakti scripture advises therefore, that we transfer our attachments from these temporary objects, relationships and circumstances, to Krishna, Krishna’s devotees, and devotional service to Krishna. Because Krishna, His service and His devotees are blissful and eternal, attachment to them brings one unending, ever-increasing happiness.

Narada says: “O good soul, does not a thing, applied therapeutically, cure a disease which was caused by that very same thing?” (SB 1.5.33)
