We are all travelers in this world.
No matter where we are now, we can’t stay.
Nonetheless, every living being in this word makes a home somewhere, and works hard to defend it.
But to no avail.
Being constantly moved on when one wants to stay is deeply disturbing.
In fact, the word, “travel” derives from the word, “travail,” which comes from the Latin, trepalium – “instrument of torture.”
But one’s sense of home – a permanent, happy place to live – is natural, because every soul has a home waiting with Krishna, in Krishna’s eternal, blissful abode.
It is out of great kindness therefore, that Krishna invites us to come back home to the spiritual world by practicing devotional service:
“Engage your mind always in thinking of Me, become My devotee, offer obeisances to Me and worship Me. Being completely absorbed in Me, surely you will come to Me.” (BG 9.34)
What is remarkable, however, is that even after hearing Krishna’s invitation, one may not care for it.
“The Lord is more anxious to take us back into His kingdom than we can desire. Most of us do not desire at all to go back to Godhead. Only a very few men want to go back to Godhead. But anyone who desires to go back to Godhead, Sri Krishna helps in all respects.” (SB 1.2.17)
