Your Heart is a Container

The word, contain comes from from Latin, continere: con- altogether + tenere- to hold.

From contain, comes the word, content, which has two meanings:

Content (1): the things that are held or included in something.

Content (2): in a state of peaceful happiness.

Our hearts are containers in which we hold thoughts and emotions.

When we fill our hearts with transcendental content we are content (peaceful and happy).

When we fill our hearts with material content we are discontent.

Bhakti yogis eagerly pour transcendental sound into their ears, which are the gateways to their hearts, and thus feel supreme happiness.

“The sound incarnation of Lord Krishna, the Supreme Soul [i.e. Srimad-Bhagavatam], enters into the heart of a self-realized devotee, sits on the lotus flower of his loving relationship, and thus cleanses the dust of material association, such as lust, anger and hankering. Thus it acts like autumnal rains upon pools of muddy water. (Srimad-bhagavatam 2.8.5)
